| How is Kaleid-O-Space licensed? |
 |
One license (registration code) is required for each PC that will have the screen
saver installed. You may move the software from an old PC to a new PC, so long as
you uninstall it from the old PC. |
| What are the system requirements for Kaleid-O-Space? |
 |
We generally recommend a Pentium or Celeron class CPU at 366mHz or better,
and a graphics card capable of 24bit (16 million color) displays at 800x600 or better.
However, Kaleid-O-Space will literally run on any system running Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4,
2000, or XP Home or Pro. The screen saver will run at 256 colors or more and at any
desktop size. The performance of the kaleidoscopes will be directly proportional to the
capabilities of your system. There are setup options to help compensate for older or
slower systems. On the latest and fastest systems, the kaleidoscope animations may run
up to 24 frames per second. On a really old system, such as a 120mHz Pentium 1, the
kaleidoscopes might only run at one frame every few seconds. This is why it is a good
thing to download and try the screen saver on your system before buying. |
| How long does the trial period last? |
 |
The trial period is currently 7 days. |
| What happens when the trial period ends? |
 |
The setup screen shows the countdown to the end of the trial period. Once
the trial expires, the screen saver will stop during the program startup phase and
ask you to enter a registration code. If you enter a valid code the screen saver
will become registered and will run indefinitely. If you do not enter a registration
code, the program will exit. Registered screen savers do not display the program
title, "Buy Now" link, or any other advertising on the kaleidoscopes. |
| How do I uninstall the screen saver after the trial period? |
 |
The installation process created icons in the program group for Kaleid-O-Space
for both running the screen saver and uninstalling it. You can also go to
"Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs" and select Kaleid-O-Space from the list, then
click the Remove button. Select the "Automatic" option, since there is no advantage to
performing a manual uninstall. |
| How do I change the setup options for Kaleid-O-Space? |
 |
There are two ways to access the setup dialog.
1) While the screen saver is running, move the mouse pointer down to the lower
right of the screen. Some buttons will appear. One of the buttons is "Setup". Click that
button and the screen saver will be suspended and the setup dialog will open over a
black screen. Choose your options and then click OK or Cancel to return to the screen
saver.
2) Open the Display Properties dialog either by right-clicking on the desktop
and selecting Properties, or from the Control Panel icon. Select the Screen Saver tab,
then be sure Kaleid-O-Space is selected in the list box as the current screen saver.
Click the Settings button to open the Kaleid-O-Space Setup dialog. Choose your options
and then click OK or Cancel to close the dialog.
Clicking OK to close the setup dialog accepts your changes. Clicking Cancel
rejects your changes. Use the ? buttons next to each setup option for information on
using the options. |
| Kaleid-O-Space exits when I press any key, but can I make it exit when the
mouse is moved? |
 |
Yes. Open the Setup dialog and check the box labeled "Disable interactivity
and exit on mouse move".
Unlike most screen savers, Kaleid-O-Space has interactive features that allow
you to use the mouse to interact with the screen saver. Interactivity is enabled by
default.
See the ReadMe file for more details. |
| I am running Kaleid-O-Space on an older PC. How can I maximize the animation
performance? |
 |
Open the Setup dialog and make the following changes: Under Display Smoothing,
check "Normal"; Under Display Size, check "Reduced"; Uncheck "Show secondary patterns";
Uncheck "Show backgrounds". Optionally, you can also uncheck "Show transition effects"
to bypass the zoom-in and zoom-out animations.
See the ReadMe file for more details. |
| Can I prevent one or more kaleidoscopes from displaying? |
 |
Yes. Open the Setup dialog. Click the "Kaleidoscope Selector" button. Use the
Prev and Next buttons to navigate through the pages of kaleidoscope sets. Each page shows
nine kaleidoscope buttons. Each kaleidoscope button has sub-buttons in the upper right for
showing a screen shot, and a checkbox in the lower left for enabling and disabling the
kaleidoscope.
Go to the page containing the kaleidoscope in question and uncheck the box
in its lower left corner to disable it. Disabled scopes will not display again until
re-enabled. Click Return to go back to the setup dialog. Click OK to save your changes.
See the ReadMe file for more details. |
| Can I setup Kaleid-O-Space to continuously display only one kaleidoscope? |
 |
Go to each page and uncheck all the boxes in the lower left corners of the scopes
to disable all but the one you want. Disabled scopes will not display again until
re-enabled. Click Return to go back to the setup dialog. Next uncheck the checkbox for
"Show transition effects". Click OK to save your changes.
The result of the above is that one kaleidoscope will play continuously without
any breaks. The transition delay timing has no effect when the program is setup this way.
Alternatively, you can leave transition effects enabled. In this case the scope will play
until the timer setting is reached, then it will zoom out and right back in again. Use
this setup if you are more concerned about screen burn-in since the screen pixels will be
periodically reset. |
